POORI-SUBZIE (OR BHAAJEE)

 

Poori-Subzie (or Bhaajee) is gettable mostly in North India, especially in Uttar Pradesh. The curry (subzie) consists normally of potatoes in sauce. Sometimes, especially in the southern part of the country the potatoes do not have sauce and the poories are exclusively made up of refined flour (maida). 

ALOO TIKKI (CHAAP)

 

Aloo Tikkis are patties prepare of mashed potatoes and masala deep fried in oil. They are served typically with a curry called Chholey (chick peas). They are popular in winter in North India. In the Eastern part of the country, potato patties dipped in flour batter and deep fried and sold as "Chaap".

PAV BHAAJI

 

Pav(bread) is drenched in butter and served with Bhaajee(a side dish). The Subzie(Bhaajje) is prepared from crushing cooked potatoes, tomatoes, chillies(powder), onions and made into a paste and kept hot for many hours in a wide pan. Pav bhaajee is a compulsory in any chat menu across India.

MIRCHI BAJJI

Bajjis are very popular in the country with each part having its own version. The common recipe is to cut chilli peppers and dip the chilli in batter (usually of gram flour) and deep fry in a big mouthed pan until the flour turn to golden color. Bajjis are served with chutneys or kethups or sauces. They serve as good hunger busters in the evening.

CHANNA OR CHICKPEAS

 

These days, Channa is served seperately (Channa bathura is still a popular street food) seasoned with flakes of thin samosas specially made for the purpose, onions and a slice of lime. Every bus and train station has many vendors selling Channas. Another great food to taste on the go.

McDonald's to pay Rs. 15,000 for delivering wrong burger



Fastfood star McDonald's has been directed by a consumer forum here to pay Rs.15,000 as recompense to one of its customers for delivering a non-veg burger instead of the vegetarian one.
The Forum said, "By delivering her a non-vegetarian burger instead of the vegetarian burger ordered by consumer is a gross negligence on the part of the delivery-crew-member, whose conduct is equivalent to deficiency-in-service."Accepting the complaint, we direct the opposite party (McDonald's) to pay to the complainant Rs.10,000 as recompense and Rs. 5,000 as cost of judicial proceeding.

The consumer ordered for two vegetarian burgers, but consumer was delivered one non-vegetarian and one vegetarian burgers.The consumer is realized it was a non-veg burger only after eating half of it and thereafter, started vomiting.The consumer had also declared that being an Arya Samaj follower and a Hindu, eating the non-vegetarian food has hurt her emotionally.
In its process, the McDonald's had claimed that the consumer had willfully accepted the non-veg burger instead of the vegetarian one ordered by that.The forum, however, disapproved the assertion, saying had the consumer wanted a non-veg burger she would have ordered one.

Grandma's Homemade Macaroni and Cheese


Ingredients:
  • 2 cups macaroni (uncooked)
  • 1 1/4 cups cheddar cheese (shredded)
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 1/2 cups milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • paprik
     
Directions:
  1. Cook macaroni until soft.
  2. Use a large roast-pan or bowl which you would cook casseroles in the oven, and put a thin layer of macaroni upon the bottom, and then spread cheese over that layer, and repeat this layering process until the cheese and macaroni are gone (makes about 3-4 layers each).
  3. Mix salt, pepper, eggs and milk together.
  4. Pour into layered macaroni & cheese, until filled at the top (or until it is gone).
  5. Sprinkle w/ paprika on top.
  6. Place in oven, Bake at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes (covered).
  7. Enjoy!
